Estée Lauder Perfecting Primer Collection - Testing the Smoother, the Mattifier and the Illuminator

In mid January, Estée Lauder launched the Perfecting Primer Collection*, a collection including a primer for pretty much everyone. There's the Smoother for normal skin, the Mattifier for combination or oily skin and the Illuminator for dry skin. I didn't even have to open the packaging to know which one would be the perfect choice for me but I did it anyway, that's how nosey I am.

The name of each primer already sums up what it does but let's have a closer look at the products because in my opinion, choosing the right primer from this collection doesn't only depend on your skin type, it's all about how you like your overall complexion to look. All of the primers can be worn on their own because they do have a nice finish already, that's if you like the natural look of your skin.

The Smoother Universal Perfecting Primer
The smoother is a product which does exactly what you'd wish a primer to do. It smoothes the appearance of the skin with some sort of blurring effect. Pores are less visible and the skin feels absolutely polished (maybe due to the silicone?) which makes it easy to apply foundation on top for an even finish. This product contains apricot oils to keep the hydration inside your skin and I really appreciate this because it makes this primer suitable for people with dry skin too. However, there's one primer in the collection which is even better for dry skin and that's the Illuminator.

The Illuminator Radiant Perfecting Primer + Finisher
This is it! My new go to primer which leaves my skin illuminated but not too glowy and can be applied as a soft highlighter to finish as well! The Illuminator contains vitamin E, rice bran essence and shea butter and it feels like a fresh and cooling moisturizer when applying it. Honestly, it's so nice! It's a good base for make up and it makes my whole face look more awake and fresh. I sometimes dab a bit of it onto my cheekbones after applying foundation, it works like a highlighter but you have to be careful not to destroy the "evenness" of the foundation underneath. Totally worth it though, it's the most gorgeous subtle highlight!

The Mattifier Shine Control Perfecting Primer + Finisher
If you're a girl with oily or combination skin, this oil-free product might make you very happy! My skin stays matte the whole day anyway except for that certain time of the month, so that's when I tested this product and this made my skin stay matte no matter what! I didn't need the teeniest bit of powder during the day and my complexion looked more even as well! So even though this primer isn't exactly designed for my skin type, I really enjoy using it from time to time to make my T-zone stay matte.

I couldn't find the ingredient lists of the three products right away when I wanted to check for the silicones in them, which I find slightly annoying. In the end I found them online and they all contain silicones. However, I didn't have any allergic reactions to the products so the silicones in there aren't bothering my skin. The Smoother seems to be the only one which isn't water-based and it has a more "silicony" feeling to it than the other two primers.

The primers are available for CHF 48 each which isn't cheap but the products are really good. The Illuminator was the one I already expected would be my favourite and it truly is amazing, totally worth the money.

Have you tried the Perfecting Primer Collection? Which one is your favourite primer?

Have a great day!

      xx Cheryl
