Over the last couple of months I've been testing Klorane's newly launched body care line with Cupuaçu*. If what you're thinking right now is "what on earth is Cupuaçu?", that's totally fine. It's new, well, not new new because it grows on a plant so it has been around for a while but as far as I know, it hasn't been used in cosmetics before. But before we get into detail about Cupuaçu, let me show you what we're talking about:
The new line has been launched in May and contains five shower gels, five shower creams, four hand soaps and four body lotions, a total of ten different scents. At the lovely launch event in April, all of the products were displayed and the scents are divine! Some are very warm and creamy, others light and fresh or fruity. If I remember correctly, Eau de Tiaré would be nice for men too. I've had the chance to put the Collecion Fleur d'Hibiscus and the Collection Fleur de Cupuaçu to the test, my two favourite scents from the line.
Cupuaçu is a plant which grows in the Amazon region. Similar to shea, parts of it are very nourishing for the skin. In fact, it is 1.5 times more nourishing than shea. And it smells just as great! Creamy, warm and slightly sweet, maybe kind of nutty. Klorane's new line contains the active ingredients and other beneficial parts of this lovely fruit, such as omega-6 and 9 fatty acids. The oils prevent dehydration of the skin and nourish it.
The Amazon rainforest is the biggest one on earth with an incredible amount of animals and different plants and we want to keep it that way. Therefore, the Klorane Botanical Foundation does its part in protecting the rainforest and its inhabitants while sourcing the ingredients for their products. They've been certified by UNESCO for their amazing work, because they didn't just enforest the Cupuaçu plant but made sure to respect biodiversity, support the locals, learn together and teach others how to sustainably plant and work with Cupuaçu.
The Collection Fleur de Cupuaçu is dedicated to dry to severely dry skin and in my opinion the absolute perfect choice for winter. It has the highest concentration of organic Cupuaçu butter of the line and it feels gorgeously soft and creamy on the skin while not being too heavy. It's scented with freesia and cotton-wood milk, a warm and cozy combination. The collection contains a shower cream, a body lotion and a hand soap. All of them are very nourishing and hydrating. The shower cream is quite thick which makes it difficult to squeeze out of the packaging but it's worth it! Especially in winter I find it important to have a shower cream which doesn't dry out my skin and this one seems perfect, as it hydrates and cleanses my skin at the same time. However, I'm not a fan of soap bars so even if this might be a good quality product, I won't use it as I don't like how messy soap bars are to use and store. But I might need to think about that because soap bars such as the ones from Klorane don't need as much packaging and are therefore more environmentally friendly.
If you're looking for summer skin care and shower gels, I'd recommend choosing one of Klorane's soap free shower gels instead of a shower cream and a lighter body lotion. The Collection Fleur d'Hibiscus is much lighter and has a fresher, fruitier scent. Besides hibiscus it contains peony and honeysuckle. I didn't have a body lotion to test for you but I applied some at the event and it definitely feels lighter than the Fleur de Cupuaçu body lotion. The shower gel feels nice but doesn't foam a lot, if that's something you're looking for. In my opinion, this feels like your standard shower gel but without the soapy part, if that makes any sense. I really enjoy using it because of the fresh scent and the lovely gel-texture. There's one downside to it: the packaging is very hard to open when your hands are wet. I don't know whether this was an issue just my bottle had but I had to leave it open all the time. Anyhow, it didn't leak even though it was open and upside down. Yay!
The shower gels and creams are available for CHF 8.90, the body lotions for CHF 19.90 and the cream soaps for CHF 5.90 in drugstores and pharmacies.
I'm really happy with Klorane's new body care line. The line gives you so many options scent-wise but also in terms of texture and the most important part: they source the ingredients in a social and ecological way. Plastic is reduced in the packagings and they can be recycled. I hope they continue to work on their packaging so not only the products but also their packaging is bio-degradable.
What do you think about this launch?
Have a great day!
